Lena-Maria Stupitzky is a Media Artist based in Munich. Her work exists at the intersection of media art, artistic research, and speculative design. She studied Communication Design and Media at the Universities of Applied Sciences in Wismar and Munich. Before that, she studied Agriculture at Weihenstephan-Triesdorf University of Applied Sciences.
In her artistic practice, Lena-Maria investigates invisible structures that shape our everyday lives - from technical and political infrastructures to material and digital networks. She is interested in how these systems influence our perception and what narratives they generate. Through an interdisciplinary approach, she combines research, speculative design, and media art strategies to discuss alternative perspectives on existing orders. Each project is preceded by comprehensive research, drawing from historical, sociological, political, and project-specific content such as geology, soil science, etc. Lena-Marias research is based on literature and archival work, as well as direct exchange with experts and contemporary witnesses. As part of this research process, she designs artifacts, objects, and tools that serve as means of investigation and representation. This results in content collages, databases, and interactive installations that make visible the interactions between infrastructural systems and everyday perceptions, inscribing themselves as speculative machines in this discourse.
Lena-Maria is a member of the Kollektiv Crémbach, which advocates for equal opportunities and inclusion in art and cultural education and was within the represented at documenta fifteen with the project "No Measurement Group-Camp on Vacation". Since 2021, she has been working closely with Nick Förster on projects such as "Specters of the Internet" and "Thinking like a Forest", which examine digital infrastructures and their societal impacts. For "Specters of the Internet", they were awarded the City of Fürstenfeldbruck Art Prize in 2023 and the Lab.30 Award at the lab.30 Media Art Festival Augsburg in 2024.
